Brochure

  • Pros
    • They are easy to hand out to people
    • They are usually small enough to fit into your pocket or purse
    • You can use colors, fonts, and pictures to capture your readers/audience
    • They are easy to display in different types of places
    • They are time effective, they don’t take a great amount of time to make
  • Cons
    • It may be expensive to print enough brochures
    • May not have enough space to fit all the information you need
    • Using print brochures is not an environmental friendly way of advertising
    • Print brochures limit the amount of people that will actually see it
    • Many people use social media for information rather than handouts
  • The target audience of this brochure would have to be people who already smoke.
  • To make their text accessible to their audience they advertise it on the internet, and in dental and doctor offices.
  • The goal of the multimodal text is to inform smokers to the consequences of smoking on their oral health and also help them to stop smoking.
  • The goal of informing their audience of the effects of smoking on oral health was achieved, but there is no way to know if the goal of getting them to stop smoking was achieved.
  • The fact that it had actual pictures and answered frequently asked questions helped the goal to be achieved.
  • The colors and font that was used didn’t help the goal to get achieved in any way I don’t think.
  • I do think that I would use a brochure for my remix, because I think it would be very effective in providing information to my audience. I could print them and hand them out as well as share it on my social media page for many people to see.

Website

  • Pros
    • Can fit a lot of information on a website page
    • Many people use online sources to get information
    • You can share your website page on your social media sites
    • They bring awareness
    • They have a helpline phone number for people to call
  • Cons
    • Sometimes too much information isn’t effective, because people don’t want to read that much
    • Doesn’t really have any pictures to catch the reader’s attention
    • There are many websites pertaining to my topic, so how will someone find it
    • Can have unreliable information
    • Doesn’t really have solutions on them
  • The target audience of the website is both smokers and non smokers.
  • The strategies used to make it accessible to their audience was allowing it to be accessed by anyone.
  • The goal of the website is to bring awareness of the effects of smoking on your oral health as well as different solutions to help your oral health if you are a smoker.
  • I do think that the goal was achieved by the website.
  • Providing credible information as well as enough information allowed the goal to be achieved.
  • It made it difficult for the goal to be achieved because there was a lot of information to read and not any pictures to draw the reader’s attention.
  • I do not think I will use this form of media for my remix, because it was just a lot of information thrown on a page and many people may not find it credible. It is also not very interesting to look at and I feel that it would have to be very professionally made for my audience to actually want to read it.

Remix Video

  • Pros
    • Many people watch videos these days
    • They are catchy and short with a lot of information
    • Can share them on social media websites
    • It’s easier to watch a video than to read the information
    • Easy to enjoy
  • Cons
    • won’t appeal to everyone
    • can’t put very much information
    • may not be able to portray what you are wanting it to
    • it is biased
    • no call to action
  • The target audience of this remix video is both smokers and nonsmokers.
  • The goal of this video is to bring awareness of the effects of smoking on your oral health in the hopes that it will make you quit smoking or not want to start smoking.
  • I do think that the goal was achieved by the remix video, it provided a lot of helpful information
  • They used credible information to achieve the goal as well as a website to get more information.
  • One thing that made it difficult for the goal to be achieved was the fact that a monotone voice was used throughout the whole video which got a little boring to listen to.
  • I actually do think I would use this form of media for my remix, because I think it is an effective way to spread the information around. It is easy to post onto my facebook page, and it is easy for my facebook friends to share it to their facebook friends, and possibly go viral for everyone to see.

In the remix video and the brochure the author used images and wording to present the different kinds of information. The website page used just words to present the information and didn’t use any pictures. The remix video also used a voice and pictures to present the information, which made it a little more interesting. Overall the three different samples had the same target audience of both smokers and nonsmokers. The use of pictures on some of the media to show information worked better for the remix video and the brochure rather than the website because those two had less information.
